Church Gate (Marathi: चर्चगेट) is a regional center in southern Mumbai (formerly Bombay). The station takes its name from the Port of Church Street (now Veer Nariman Road), that lies just south of the station. During the eighteenth until the mid-19th century, Bombay was a walled city. The walls had three gates, and the Gate of the Church, which takes its name from St. Thomas Cathedral, was one of the gates. This Gate was situated near the current position of the Flora Fountain. During the mid of the nineteenth century, the walls were torn down to help the expansion process of Mumbai.

Churchgate railway station gets its name from the area of Churchgate. Churchgate station is a railway terminal for the western commuter trains in Mumbai. It is the southernmost top of the western railway lines in Mumbai. It also houses the headquarters of Western Railway. Today, the station is one of the busiest stations in the city. Millions of city dwellers living in the suburbs alight at this station to reach their offices in business districts of South Mumbai.
