Goregaon is the locality situated at the north of Mumbai. It is a major railway station on the Mumbai suburban railway on the Western Railway (India) railway line. Bracketted on each side of the railway line through the Western Express Highway and road links, it is primarily a middle class residential area, but the region is becoming a wealthy suburb. The famous film locations such as Filmistan and Film City are here. The Dindoshi Bus Depot is located in the east and Goregaon Goregaon Bus Station is located in Goregaon West, just outside the Goregaon station.
Up to the late 1970s, the suburb was sparsely populated with the main residential localities springing up in Nagars (like Unnat Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, Motilal Nagar, Bangur Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Siddharth Nagar, Piramal Nagar, Mahesh Nagar) on the West and Wadis (like Pandurang wadi) and Jaiprakash Nagar on the East.
The eastern boundary of the district was actually the Western Express Highway, after which the picturesque Aarey Milk Colony offered its forested charm of the region.
However, the real estate boom saw the city spread its territory and increase its population density. In the east, Dindoshi, Gokuldham, Yashodham, Saibaba Complex, Film City Road, etc. and west, Bangura Nagar, Lokhandwala Complex (now considered a separate neighborhood) and Link Road are the new poles of development. Despite the increase in population, rail and road infrastructure was the same, so it has become tight.
Besides the above, Goregaon (E) is also home to the recently developed area known as New Dindoshi compound Nagari Nivara Parishad (popularly known as the NDP), a set of housing for lower middle class. There are over 30,000 people living on the NDP division between two areas. It is one of the best accommodation provided by the government.
