Kurla a railway station on the central and the harbour railway lines of Mumbai is one of the busiest Stations. Kurla was connected to Sion By Sion Causeway in 1668 at a time when it was on lease with British East India Company.The Name Kurla comes from the word Kurliwhich is the name of a local crab which were found in huge numbers before it became a sub-urban vicinity.

Kurla was pronounced as Coorla during the British Rule was an important station on the Great Indian Peninsula Railway ten miles northeast of Bombay with six other Localities Like Mohila, Kolikalyan, Marol, Shahar, Asalphe and Parjapur owned by Mr. Ardeshir Hormasji Wadia who let out rent for such localities which amounted to £358 (Rs. 3587).
