Mahalakshmi is a station on the western line of the Mumbai Railways, it is considered to be part of the South Mumbai area and is extremely famous for the Mahalakshmi temple which is one of biggest tourist attractions in Mumbai. Besides this Mahalaxmi was also a major industrial area during British time with a lot of erstwhile mills which used to operate out of this area.

Mahalakshmi Temple is one of the Most Renouned Temple in Mumbai located on Bhulabhai Desai Road.Dhakji Dadaji a hindu Merchant is the one who developed the temple in the year 1785.

The History of this temple Goes long back which is connected to the building Hornby Vellard.Apparently after portions of the Vellard collapsed on two occasions, the  chief engineer prabhu Pathare, dreamed of a Lakshmi statue in the sea near Worli. The search was proved and hence the temple was built.Thereafter, the Vellard work could be completed smoothly.
