Lower Parel is the name of a Mumbai suburban railway station.Most of the mills in Mumbai, formerly in this area until a few years ago are now closed.

Parel was one of the islands that formed Mumbai.Parel Belonged to the Kingdom Of Raja Bhimdev in the 13th century.The Name originated from a temple dedicated to shiva known as Parali Vaijanath Mahadev temple.

Parel has recently seen a huge influx of companies in the compounds of cotton mills which were closed long Back.The area is now proud of having five star hotels like  ITC Hotel The Grand Central, Mumbai.Parel has become an area where the lower middle class and rich live side by side.The cotton mills which were shut long back hence such estates are now used for  ultra-expensive gated communities.

Parel as a locality has many hospitals in the vicinity. For instance KEM Hospital,Tata Cancer Hospital and so on.
