Walkeshwar is an upscale neighborhood in the south of Mumbai, on the northwest corner of Marine Drive loop, and is most famous for the temple and Walkeshwar Banganga Tank. Walkeshwar is named after Lord Shiva, part of the Trinity of Hinduism, and comes from the Sanskrit word for an idol made of sand – Valuka Iswar, an avatar of Shiva. This neighborhood is located on the highest point in the city.

Malabar Hill is also a part of Walkeshwar, and is close to the Hanging Gardens. Raj Bhavan, the official residence of Governor of Maharashtra and some of the most expensive neighborhoods in the country are located here.
